Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in becoming an American, travel, and my home city of San Francisco. Hope you enjoy!

Mendocino

Mendocino

I figured that my 'funemployment' was going to come to an end in the near future so I decided to take one last mid-week road trip up to Mendocino this past week. First up was a horseback ride at Thunderbird Ranch- beautiful ride through the vineyards and then some work in the arena when we got back (I am definitely not in riding shape anymore...ouch).  After the ride was over I headed on over to the coast to check into my adorable Airbnb. I stayed at the Trillium Inn (also a restaurant) and it was gorgeous- could see the ocean from my window (appropriately named the Ocean View Room), had a beautiful garden and was within walking distance to the headlands.

After dropping my things off I took a walk along the water before eating a delicious dinner at the restaurant. Then I headed back out to the point to watch the sunset and wrapped up the night back to my room to stream hours and hours of HBO as my brother just gave me his password- best gift ever! Normally I would feel a little bad about this but when you're in Mendocino on a Tuesday night and you're not drinking (trying to do a dry June since I went a bit overboard in May) there isn't a whole lot to do so HBO streaming it is.

The next day I was up bright and early to eat my complementary waffle breakfast that was delicious- another bonus of my stay! Afterwards, I headed up to Fort Bragg so I could finally visit Glass Beach which I have been wanting to see forever. When I was a kid I loved collecting beach glass so it was fun to see a beach full of it. The beach had plenty of signs asking people not to take the glass and plenty of people choosing to ignore those signs- therefore I spent plenty of time silently judging them. Instead I spent the morning reading on the beach and flipping rocks looking for crabs which was a skill I mastered as a kid at Galiano (have to pick a good rock, flip quick and be ready to grab them). Afterwards I headed over to Mackerricher State Park to walk along the coast and take in the views before heading over to the Point Cabrillo Light Station- cool lighthouse and old Lightkeeper homes. It was starting to rain as I wrapped up at the lighthouse so I headed back to the inn for another delicious dinner. I ended up heading out early the next morning as I had to be back in the city but it was a great mini road trip up the coast!
