Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in becoming an American, travel, and my home city of San Francisco. Hope you enjoy!

It’s been awhile since I’ve kept the blog up to date and I’ve been lucky enough to have traveled quite a bit in my absence here. Due to this, starting up again seemed super overwhelming! Do I start from where I left off? Do I start with the most recent trip? The most exciting trip? Who even cares anymore? The answer to the last question is: I do. I have the world’s worst memory and these posts help me to remember each trip - plus it makes it super easy when friends ask for recommendations :-). And as for it being super overwhelming, well I decided to just start so here it goes for Copenhagen from Feb 2018.

Visiting Denmark over a long weekend in February is…chilly. I was VERY unprepared for how cold it was going to be but put on all my layers and headed out to explore. I started off at the Tivoli Gardens - the second oldest amusement park (opened in 1843). I didn’t hop on any of the rides but I loved looking around and checking out the food.

My favorite thing to do in a new city is to walk around and explore. Considering this was a short weekend trip, I spent most of my time during the day outside - there was so much to see! Some highlights are below.

One of the highlights for me was checking out the Kastellet (The Citadel) which is one of the best preserved fortresses in Northern Europe built in 1664. This was also the site of my biggest lapse in judgement. I had spent the morning watching the Danes bike around and figured it couldn’t be THAT cold - plus I wanted to get in some exercise. I had neglected to notice that all the locals were biking in what essentially amounted to snowsuits and, despite the fact that I was pretty much wearing every single item of clothing I had packed, I was FREEZING the entire time. Lost all Canadian street cred when I biked to the nearest cafe after leaving to grab some tea and warm up.

One of the main reasons I wanted to visit Copenhagen was to check out the architecture and design. My favorites were the Design Museum, Arne Jacobsen’s Royal Hotel, the Circle Bridge and the Royal Library.

Last but not least, I stayed at the Urban House which was a great location and a fun atmosphere. Food highlights were: dinner/drinks the restaurants in the Meatpacking District (near the hotel), lunch at Nimb Brasserie in Tivoli Gardens and breakfast at 108’s Coffee Bar.

To sum up the trip: Denmark does it right - the architecture is stunning, the design is beautiful, the food is fantastic and the drinks are delicious. I definitely want to go back!
